Roku Inc. (Nasdaq: ROKU) and Globe Telecom today announced the signing of a Roku Powered licensing agreement allowing Globe to leverage Roku's streaming platform including its operating system, channel store and streaming players to launch a new Globe Streamwatch device in the Philippines by November this year.
“Globe is one of the leading telecom providers in the Philippines, with millions of cellular and broadband customers. It is a logical next step for Globe to launch a streaming device to its customers to enhance their entertainment experience at home. With the Roku Powered licensing program telco operators such as Globe can launch internet-delivered TV services quickly by leveraging our powerful streaming platform,” said Andrew Ferrone, vice president of pay TV at Roku.
The new Roku powered Globe Streamwatch stick comes with its own remote and will be available to Globe At Home postpaid customers this November. |
Martha Sazon, Senior Vice President for Globe At Home said, “The collaboration with Roku allows us to give our customers more streaming device choices and a new streaming experience all together. Globe Streamwatch is easy to use and enjoy. By just plugging and activating the device, our customers will readily have access to a wealth of entertainment available at home even without cable connection.”
Globe is the first Roku Powered partner that will offer a streaming stick form factor to its customers. Globe Streamwatch users will be able to watch a variety of content across free and paid channels in different categories including sports, lifestyle, fashion, and more. It comes with three months access to top streaming services such as NETFLIX, Disney Channel Apps and HOOQ.
