Huawei turns over 100 laptops to Ayala Foundation for Globe Telecom’s Global Filipino Schools program

Global information and communications technology solutions provider Huawei Technologies Philippines, Inc. supports the Global Filipino Schools Program of Globe Telecom, Inc. and Ayala Foundation, Inc. as it turns over 100 laptops for use of public elementary schools under the program. While Globe provides internet access to both teachers and students in GFS schools, additional devices such as the donated laptops are needed to allow more students to explore the internet and learn applications which are critical in ushering 21st century learning in public schools. Globe customers in VISMIN now enjoy additional data capacity for faster mobile internet

Customers of Globe Telecom in Visayas and Mindanao stand to benefit from the accelerated deployment of its additional allocation in the 2600 megahertz band as the company continues to step up its capacity-enhancement initiative to provide better mobile internet experience.  The company’s additional allocation in the 2600 MHz frequency is among the spectrum assets that it gained following the joint buyout of San Miguel Corp.’s telecommunications assets. In VISMIN, the total number of sites equipped with the 2600 MHz frequency has reached 500 sites, to cover big businesses and highly urbanized populated residential areas.

SM City Iloilo receives Gawad EMB from DENR VI

SM City Iloilo was recently awarded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resourses-Environmental Management Bureau Region 6(DENR-EMB 6) in a program held recently in celebration of the Philippine Environment Month.  The mall has been in partnership with the DENR in environmental projects by providing the venue in their exhibits and programs as well as joining in the various community initiatives of the agency.

Globe signs agreement with government, other telcos for creation of emergency hotline 911

Globe Telecom signed an agreement with the government to support the creation of a new nationwide emergency hotline number, which is 911, to replace Patrol 117. Effectively, the use of 911 will begin August 1, which is also the commencement of the transition period. Globe also agreed to provide technical support during the period. Globe President & CEO Ernest Cu (right) signs the agreement for Globe. In addition, Globe also agreed to support a recommendation to be submitted to President Duterte for the issuance of a new Executive Order transferring the authority of the Patrol 117 Commission to a new legal entity to handle the 911 system. 

NCC unveils most competitive cities and municipalities for 2016

14 July 2016, Pasay City- The National Competitiveness Council has named the most competitive LGUs in the 4th Regional Competitiveness Summit today as it recognize the crucial role of local government units in promoting competitiveness in the country. The event highlights the results of the 2016 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI). Topping the list of overall most competitive Highly Urbanized Cities (HUC) is Quezon City followed by  Makati City at 2nd and  the City of Manila  at 3rd place. Meanwhile, Naga City secured its position as the overall most competitive Component City, along with the second placer San Fernando City, Pampanga.  Legazpi City, Albay landed in the 3rd spot. On the overall most competitive 1st-2nd Class Municipalities category, Cainta, Rizal is 1st place while its neighbor Taytay, Rizal moved one notch to 2nd place. Philippines AirAsia Announces Leadership Change

The Board of Directors of Philippines AirAsia Inc. today announced that Captain Dexter Comendador has been named interim Chief Executive Officer effective July 30. He replaces Joy Cañeba who has resigned after three years of service in the company. Captain Comendador has over 34 years of experience in the aviation industry as officer of Philippine Air Force and commercial pilot for various airlines. He joined Philippines AirAsia in 2011 as Director of Flight Operations and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2015.   Philippines AirAsia Chair, Maan Hontiveros said, "The Board would like to thank Joy for her significant contribution to AirAsia. It was under her dynamic leadership that we successfully integrated and merged two airline companies in the Philippines, leading to the launching of Philippines AirAsia. We understand and fully support her decision to leave and wish her all the best in her legal career."

2016 International Travel Festival in Cebu this July

Showcasing both both domestic and foreign travel destinations, the 3rd International Travel Festival (ITF) reels off on July 15-17 at the Ayala Center Cebu. With the theme: “Don’t Dream, Just Go” and organized by MyEventology, the three-day 2016 ITF brings together over 50 exhibitors including national tour operators, airlines, hotels, resorts, travel agents, financial institutions, and insurance agents. The ITF was initially staged in 2014 and has attracted thousands of visitors as well as gained positive sales results for the exhibitors. Out-of-School-Youth Now a Professional Baker

A father is usually the one expected to lead his family,provide their necessities and ensure that the children get good education to protect their future. This is not an unfamiliar experience for Wilfredo Cardinal Jr. of Barangay San Julian, Janiuay, Iloilo.  Being a son to a single mother, Wilfredo did not hesitate to carry on his shoulders the responsibility of being the head of the family and a father figure to his sister and two brothers. At a young age of 20, he learned the bitterness of life and became familiar of ignoring both physical and emotional injuries, enduring all the pain just to lay down a platter of food to his family’s table.  While he did not finish a formal education, everything he does selflessly while providing for his siblings’ school fees and to at least lessen his mother’s burden.
