The annual Geeks on a Beach (GOAB) international tech conference has been named finalist of the Philippine Rice Bowl Startup Awards (RBSA) 2017 Nationals which will have its awarding ceremony on October 25 at the ASPACE Greenbelt in Makati City.
“We are happy to be named finalist of the Philippine national rounds for the Rice Bowl Startup Awards 2017, which has been at the forefront of promoting innovation and technopreneurship in Southeast Asia,” said Tina Amper, TechTalks.ph founder and GOAB lead organizer.
Held in Puerto Princesa, Palawan earlier this year last August, GOAB has served as the longest-running national gathering of PH startups since its debut in Boracay Island in September 2013. GOAB was nominated under RBSA’s Best Ecosystem Initiative category.
“It is great that GOAB’s efforts for a better startup and tech community is being appreciated in this way. This would not have been possible without the help of our TechTalks.ph team, our founding partner Department of Information Communications Technology (DICT), all our partners and sponsors, and the entire startup community that has made GOAB such a success,” said Amper.
Founded in Malaysia in 2015, the RBSA seeks to give recognition to players in the Southeast Asian startup ecosystems epitomizing the values of innovation and entrepreneurship and linking them to business networks and opportunities from across the globe.
The Philippine RSBA national round winners will compete at the ASEAN Rice Bowl Startups Awards (ARBSA) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on December 13, 2017. They will be given a ticket to instant regional media exposure, investor matching, and more global and regional opportunities and networking.
“The ASEAN Rice Bowl Startups Awards has put the spotlight on the novel and exciting startups and tech initiatives from each country in the Southeast Asian region and gather them together in one event. We will take this opportunity to further better our community,” said Amper.
The Philippine RSBA 2017 country and community partner is ASPACE, the leading co-work and collaboration project that offers next generation workspaces, meeting spaces, and event spaces in Manila and Cebu for the country’s budding tech and startup communities.
GOAB was organized by TechTalks.ph in cooperation with the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT). It was co presented by PLDT, Smart, Voyager, PayMaya, ePLDT, Smart DevNet, PLDT Enterprise, PLDT Innolab, Ideaspace, and QBO, and co-produced by ASPACE Philippines.
