Increased confidence, better appreciation for school work among positive behaviors derived from Globe grassroots sports program

Young athletes have shown positive behavioral changes such as increased confidence, more interest in studying and caring for their health and lifestyle, and becoming better team players after joining TM Football Para sa Bayan (TMFPSB), a holistic and sustained sports program of Globe Telecom, according to global research firm Nielsen.

Nielsen assessed 50 TMFPSB participants age 10-12 who are residing in Metro Manila; San Carlos City, Negros Occidental; and Vigan, Ilocos Sur.

Based on the study, about 93% of the students indicated that they are able to concentrate and focus more at school and other forms of education after undergoing training through the football clinics conducted by Globe in partnership with Green Archers United Football Club.

Likewise, 9 in 10 respondents expressed more enjoyment in working with others as well as  developed better dietary, exercise, and sleeping habits after participating in the program. They also felt more confident, optimistic and determined in the face of challenges

Since 93% of the young athletes believe that partaking in football programs can provide scholarship and prizes, most of them see football as a way to contribute to tuition and other educational fees, thereby, leading to increase in school retention.  The study noted that financial issue was cited as the second most common reason leading to school drop out.

“We understand the importance of instilling good values and education among children and young adults through a sports program and we are glad that TM Football Para sa Bayan has succeeded in realizing these objectives. By reaching out to the underprivileged youth, we can also help them further harness their craft and pursue their desired careers,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications at Globe.

TMFPSB is a component of TM Sports Para Sa Bayan, which provides opportunities to underprivileged kids, especially those who are out of school, to improve their lives and reach their dreams through sports.

Globe provides a series of development programs through various sports activities.  For TMFPSB, over 1200 kids have already signed up for football clinics since 2016, reaching more than 100 clubs and organizations across 63 cities and municipalities in the Philippines.  The football clinics are being held in partnership with select non-government organizations, football associations, and the Green Archers United Football Club to provide basic and advanced training to the young athletes.

So far, TMFPSB has produced three kids who are now part of the Philippine National Team.  Likewise, through Globe Telecom’s partnership with Astro Malaysia Holdings, 24 kids were able to participate in trainings in Kuala Lumpur in 2016 and 2017 while 12 more left for Malaysia this month. Ten players were also sent to Spain to train under FC Barcelona Escola.

Globe Telecom’s sports program focuses on three United Nations Sustainable Development Goals which promotes Good Health, Quality Education, and Partnership for the Goals.

GCash cautions against gambling apps used for phishing

A recent investigation by the National Privacy Commission (NPC) and the leading mobile wallet GCash, has led to the discovery of certain gambling sites and apps which were used for account takeovers in the recent surge of phishing scams. Additionally, some influencers may have unknowingly promoted these gaming apps without being aware of their fraudulent nature. GCash is now cautioning its users to be extremely careful when accessing online gambling sites and apps, and to avoid them altogether if possible. In this latest scheme, perpetrators created gambling apps while falsely claiming to be accredited by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). These apps deceive users with a verification process, redirecting them to a fake GCash website or payment page to top up betting credits. From there, fraudsters were able to access sensitive information such as credit card details, passwords, GCash numbers, MPINs, OTPs, and other personal data that can be exploited to gain unau...
