1. Big trades shock the league

An NBA season isn’t complete without teams making huge moves before and at the league’s trade deadline. The Dallas Mavericks made the first big move, trading Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith to the Brooklyn Nets for Kyrie Irving, adding another superstar to their team to back up Slovenian superstar Luka Doncic.


 

However, the biggest trade was completed during the deadline, when the Phoenix Suns landed Kevin Durant in a massive four-team deal with the Brooklyn Nets, Indiana Pacers, and the Milwaukee Bucks, helping strengthen their team in time for the playoffs.


2. LeBron James becomes the all-time leading scorer


LeBron James is no stranger to making history, setting and breaking multiple league records during his legendary career. This year, he became the all-time leading scorer in the Los Angeles Lakers’ February 8 game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.



His inspiring play broke the longstanding record of NBA Legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, which further establishes him as one of the game’s all-time greats.

 

3. Sacramento Kings reach the NBA Playoffs after 16 years

The Sacramento Kings have struggled over the past decade and a half, failing to make the playoffs in 16 consecutive seasons. Looking to shake things up, the Kings reshaped their team by acquiring All-Star Domantas Sabonis and important role players like Malik Monk and Kevin Huerter to strengthen their young squad led by De’Aaron Fox.



By the end of the NBA regular season, the Kings finished 48-34, placing third in the Western Conference and winning the Pacific Division, which broke their long playoff drought. While their season was ended by the Golden State Warriors in the first round, the Kings have proven to be a team on the rise whose focus is on building on their recent successful campaign.

 

4. Joel Embiid becomes NBA MVP


After a rough start to his career, Joel Embiid has become one of the premier big men of today’s NBA. His combination of size, strength, and scoring touch has helped the Philadelphia 76ers achieve newfound success to become a perennial playoff team.



This season, he not only led the league in scoring with 33.1 points per game, but also won his first NBA MVP award. He joins the Sixers’ impressive list of MVP winners, which include NBA Legends Wilt Chamberlain, Julius Erving, and Allen Iverson.

 

5. Denver Nuggets reach their first NBA Finals

GCash cautions against gambling apps used for phishing

A recent investigation by the National Privacy Commission (NPC) and the leading mobile wallet GCash, has led to the discovery of certain gambling sites and apps which were used for account takeovers in the recent surge of phishing scams.
