Artists and designers from all over the world will gather in Cebu City on September 13, 2019 to talk about how creativity and design can help make cities and communities better at the Tropical Futures Forum.
The forum that will happen in time for the celebration of the Cebu Design Week will feature 15 award-winning and world-class guests. They will be visiting the Queen City of the South to share their work that has influenced and impacted countries and neighborhoods.
“Most of it is about people’s work that has a lot of that do-it yourself spirit. You know, the kind that just says, I think this needs to be here so I would like to make it happen,” said Mark Deutsch from Happy Garaje, organizer and speaker for Tropical Futures Forum.
Aside from the talks, the Tropical Futures Forum will feature a film screening of the movie Kusama: Infinity by Yayoi Kusama from this year’s Design Film Festival, a portfolio review by Dan Matutina and Plus 63, and an all-women graphic design exhibit curated by graphic designer, Dang Sering.
“We got lucky we met these folks. We’re happy we became friends. Now they’re all going to be hanging out in Cebu City this September. It would be great for you to meet them too,” said Deutsch.
To be held at The Company, IT Park, Lahug, the Tropical Futures Forum is a project made possible by the partnership of DTI Philippines, Tropical Futures Institute, Happy Garaje, The Company Cebu, PRworks, Inc. and TechTalks.ph.
“Speakers from New York, Singapore, Manila, Tokyo Yamagata, and of course, Cebu will talk about their creative projects that address education, small and medium business challenges, film, music, art, and personal creative growth. Don’t miss the chance to meet world-class creatives and learn from them by joining the Tropical Futures Forum,” said Nannette Arbon, provincial director for DTI Cebu.
Tickets are sold at 1900 pesos for professionals and 1000 pesos for students.
