Globe nominated among the Top Workplaces in Asia in ACES 2018

Globe Telecom is nominated as one of the Top Workplaces in Asia and Top Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Advocates in Asia in the prestigious Asia Corporate Excellence & Sustainability Awards (ACES) 2018.

ACES recognizes successful companies and individuals in Asia across two main domains: leadership and sustainability. The awards value services and achievements of businesses, both large and small, national and international, for their contributions to their communities and the world.

ACES present the Top Workplaces in Asia awards to a maximum of five companies annually that best represent a people-centric approach as well as strong commitment towards employee empowerment and enrichment. The awarded companies have a healthy attrition rate, engages and nurtures a great pool of talents, and have a practice of knowledge sharing among employees and stakeholders.

Centering on its belief on continuing to spin the Circle of Happiness (employees to customers to shareholders), Globe emphasizes on its Purpose of Treating People Right to do a Globe of Good as the foundation and core of every employee policy, program, and initiative it practices.

Top CSR advocate in Asia

Meanwhile, the Top CSR Advocate in Asia award is presented to companies that lead various CSR initiatives integrated into its policies and operations, and has a high level of employee and top management involvement in the programs. The CSR initiative’s focus area includes community engagement, environment, and social empowerment.

As the purveyor of Filipino digital lifestyle, Globe is anchoring its key initiatives on its four-point program: Care for the Environment, Care for People, Positive Societal Impact, and Digital Nation.

“As we grow the company, we make sure that every business decision or policy we make balances the needs of people, planet, and profit. It is in the best interest of Globe to create a wonderful world for people, businesses, and the nation,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications.

Globe recently launched a social innovation program called Globe Future Makers, which recognizes the most innovative technology solutions focused on solving social issues throughout the region. It collaborated with the world’s largest professional network of social innovators Ashoka and venture capital firm Kickstart, in a bid to help start-ups reach their full potential. Over 135 start-ups and individuals around the Philippines applied for the Globe Future Makers program – the highest number of applicants from Asia Pacific to date.

Other sustainability initiatives of Globe include its five-year partnership with Hineleban Foundation, leaders of reforestation efforts, food security, and sustainable livelihood development benefiting the indigenous communities in Bukidnon and Lanao del Sur. In 2017, a total of 120,091 seedlings planted on 120 hectares of land were donated to Hineleban.

Globe also helped reduce 17,000 tons of carbon dioxide through recycling and properly disposing 230,000 kilograms of waste materials using Project 1 Phone. With energy efficiency in mind, it equipped 3,017 cell sites in the Globe network with renewable energy and about 1,000 more with energy-saving methods as the company continues to expand coverage.

To sustain employee engagement, Globe implements a two-day paid time-off yearly for its employees to pursue their advocacies. In 2017, volunteerism in Globe reached an all-time high of 52.8% of total employee base, with 3,803 employees volunteering for various social development causes.

ACES is set to announce the winners from August 1, 2018 to August 3, 2018. An awards ceremony and gala dinner will be held at Fairmont Singapore on October 11, 2018.

GCash cautions against gambling apps used for phishing

A recent investigation by the National Privacy Commission (NPC) and the leading mobile wallet GCash, has led to the discovery of certain gambling sites and apps which were used for account takeovers in the recent surge of phishing scams.
