AFP arm supports nationwide volunteering program of Globe, Disney

A major support command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) vowed to participate in the nationwide volunteering program of Globe Telecom and The Walt Disney Company Philippines called Time Please, in a bid to to help more communities across the Philippines.

The volunteer citizen soldiers of AFP Reserve Command (AFPRESCOM) committed to actively participate in volunteer programs available on the Time Please portal and to log their volunteering hours for their do-it-yourself outreach activities.

The AFPRESCOM consists mostly of medical doctors, nurses, lawyers, dentists, teachers, and engineers by profession. These reservists are at the forefront of volunteerism and have been part of various civic action and humanitarian assistance as well as disaster response-related activities that have benefited several communities.

“This program will help our institution instill the value of nationalism and patriotism through the activities set to be joined by our reservists,” said AFPRESCOM Commander Brigadier General Rolando Rodil.
“With your web portal, we would be able to amplify our linkages with other stakeholders and beneficiaries,” Brigadier General Rodil added. “This will broaden our horizon in extending our services to the Filipino people, most especially those from marginalized communities.”

Through the volunteer matching portal developed together with iVolunteer Philippines, Time Please strives to match individuals or groups of volunteers with various volunteering opportunities across the Philippines. Companies, organizations, or groups with existing volunteer programs can also enlist their volunteer activities in the platform and invite volunteers to join their efforts.

“As part of our ongoing efforts to help elevate the living standards of all Filipinos, our Time Please volunteering initiatives continue to catch on and reach more communities that are in need. We extend our sincerest gratitude to the AFPRESCOM and other volunteers for their time and assistance,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President at Globe.

Time Please runs until August 19, 2018 and is open to individuals willing and capable to do volunteer work. To join, volunteers should form a group of two to four members as well as nominate a team leader who is at least 18 years of age and has an active Globe or TM mobile number.

Globe is giving out Globe Rewards points and other prizes to those who volunteer through Time Please. The group with the most number of volunteer hour credits at the end of the program will win an all-expense paid trip for four to Hong Kong Disneyland.

GCash cautions against gambling apps used for phishing

A recent investigation by the National Privacy Commission (NPC) and the leading mobile wallet GCash, has led to the discovery of certain gambling sites and apps which were used for account takeovers in the recent surge of phishing scams. Additionally, some influencers may have unknowingly promoted these gaming apps without being aware of their fraudulent nature. GCash is now cautioning its users to be extremely careful when accessing online gambling sites and apps, and to avoid them altogether if possible. In this latest scheme, perpetrators created gambling apps while falsely claiming to be accredited by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). These apps deceive users with a verification process, redirecting them to a fake GCash website or payment page to top up betting credits. From there, fraudsters were able to access sensitive information such as credit card details, passwords, GCash numbers, MPINs, OTPs, and other personal data that can be exploited to gain unau...
