Globe Telecom is supporting two grade school students from Xavier School who will represent the Philippines at the VEX Robotics 2018 World Championships on April 29 to May 1, 2018 in Louisville, Kentucky. Ten year-old Sebastian Silva and eight year-old brother Miguel Silva will pit their creation named “Kilva” against other robots around the world under the VEX IQ Elementary Division of the competition.
Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu said that the company will continue to support the youth with potential to bring recognition to the country. “We are proud with what the two young boys have achieved so far. They already managed to bring the country on the world stage in the fields of robotics,” Cu said.
The VEX Robotics World Championships was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the World’s Largest Robotics Competition with 1,600 teams from 40 countries.
The two Xavier grade-schoolers made their presence felt at the RoboRumble Vex Robotics tournament hosted by International School Manila last year where Kelva ran faster than other robots in the competition due to the innovation of the gear changing ratio they applied.
After powering the Eala siblings, Alex and Miko, to a number of successful world exposure in youth tennis including the upcoming French Open, the Silva brothers are the second youth team that Globe is supporting that made it to the global stage.
