At 10:30 AM today, 169 babies simultaneously latched on to their mothers for 1 full minute during Hakab Na! 2017. It forms part of Big Latch On, an international activity where mothers latch on their babies from different locations around the globe to create a world record.
Held at SM City Iloilo, the activity was able to beat the 135 latches last year - a proof that more Ilonggos support, protect, and promote breastfeeding. It is held annually to celebrate the National Breastfeeding Awareness Month every August.
This year’s theme "Sustaining Breastfeeding - Together", seeks to boost awareness of the health and economic benefits of breastfeeding, promote the importance of providing proper support to breastfeeding mothers and ultimately, create a breastfeeding nation.
This event is organized by the non-government group, Breastfeeding Ilonggas (BFI).
