The Western Visayas Association of Museums hosted a four-day workshop on Establishing Community Museums was held at Negros Women For Tomorrow in Bacolod City from August 25-28, 2015. The workshop, a project of Zero in Consortium of Museums in partnership with UNESCO Philippines, was designed for institutions that are interested in setting up their community museums or wish to revitalize existing ones.

At the end of the workshop, participants gained specific museum skills and techniques such as: object acquisition, catalog entry creation, collection care, exhibition concept development, exhibition label writing, education program and activity creation, and marketing, and fundraising.

Zero In is a consortium of the country’s premier private museums: Ateneo Art Gallery, Ayala Museum, Bahay Tsinoy, Lopez Museum and Library, and Museo Pambata. Since its establishment in 2001, Zero In has focused on the strengths of the member museums in collections and programming to propose dynamic alternatives that promote institutional support and cooperation. It has embarked on numerous projects tackling parallel themes aimed at upholding and advocating each museum’s unique interpretation and execution of subject matter, to engage more people to appreciate culture and arts as showcased by the museum members of Zero In. In its 14th year, Zero In continues to operate on this mandate with a workshop that will help strengthen museum appreciation in the country.
