Smart launches Doon Po Sa Amin 2015 video competition

Wireless services leader Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) announced the opening of registration for the 8th Doon Po Sa Amin (DPSA) video-making contest, the country’s first and longest-running crowd-sourcing competition designed to uncover the best and the most unique Filipino hometown stories.

The initiative is part of the digital inclusion advocacy of Smart, making information accessible to more and more Filipinos through mobile and Internet technologies.

“Through DPSA, we encourage Pinoys to join the digital discussion by taking part in documenting Philippine culture and history for the entire world to appreciate,” said Public Affairs Group Head Ramon Isberto. “With this project, we want to elevate Filipino pride and urge everyone to become local ambassadors of their hometowns,” Isberto added.


The competition is open to all high school and college students (student division) as well as other Pinoys (open division) nationwide who can create music videos, short plugs, or travel videos to show and share interesting stories about their hometowns—its history, traditions, destinations, delicacies, festivals, etc.

Last year, Domingo Yu Chu National High School took home the grand prize for the student division. They created a documentary on the discovery of fossils of Ammonites—a type of mollusk that lived during the time of the dinosaurs—in Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro. In the open division, a team from Rizal bested all the other entries with their video showing why Angono, Rizal is considered the Arts Capital of the Philippines.
All the entries will be plotted in an online Philippine map in DPSA website, along with the other hometown stories submitted from the past 7 years.

Submission of entries is until September 25, 2015. Entries will be judged based on content (40%), creativity (30%), execution (20%), and impact (10%).

More than Php300,000 in prizes will be given away.
Generating thousands of hometowns stories contributed by locals from different areas of the country, DPSA has been recognized by various award-giving bodies not only for fostering love of country, but also for equipping the youth with the digital tools to tell their stories. In addition to its previous recognitions, DPSA has won the Silver Quill and Gold Anvil awards early this year, and most recently, the first-ever Golden World Award for Smart from the International Public Relations Association.

GCash cautions against gambling apps used for phishing

A recent investigation by the National Privacy Commission (NPC) and the leading mobile wallet GCash, has led to the discovery of certain gambling sites and apps which were used for account takeovers in the recent surge of phishing scams. Additionally, some influencers may have unknowingly promoted these gaming apps without being aware of their fraudulent nature. GCash is now cautioning its users to be extremely careful when accessing online gambling sites and apps, and to avoid them altogether if possible.
