Eala tennis siblings, PH Volcanoes, GAU prepare relief goods for 6,480 flood victims

Following the widespread flooding triggered by monsoon rains, athletes in the Philippines join Globe Telecom in its drive to aid worst-hit localities

Around 6,480 flood victims in Marikina City, Rizal, and Bataan will be aided with food relief after some of the Philippines’ star athletes and Globe Telecom employees joined forces to host a goods drive for people affected by the recent monsoon rains.

Globe Telecom, through its nationwide volunteering program called Time Please, teamed up with members of Philippine Volcanoes, Lady Volcanoes, and Green Archers United FC (GAU), as well as Philippine Youth Tennis sensations Alex Eala and Miko Eala to provide food packs for the worst-hit communities.
“We are happy to be given the opportunity to help our community who were severely affected by the recent monsoon rains. We thank our Filipino athletes for joining us in providing immediate relief to the displaced communities,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications at Globe. “We hope more Filipinos will be inspired to share an act of kindness for other people in need.”

The volunteering activity attended by some of the Philippines’ star athletes are among the key efforts initiated by Time Please. Two months into the program, volunteers have rendered over 10 million hours through Time Please, a collaboration of Globe and The Walt Disney Company Philippines.

The athletes’ efforts to help the worst-hit localities go beyond empathy. Alex Eala, the 13-year-old Filipina tennis prodigy who recently won the Les Petit 14 tournament in Paris, was among those who shared their acts of kindness by gathering humanitarian aid for the calamity-struck victims.
“I’m very happy I got to participate in this outreach activity. I don’t usually get many chances to give back and help communities that are in need. So whatever chance I have, I try to take it,” Eala said.

For Steven Andrews Near, member of Philippine Volcanoes, the Time Please experience opened his eyes on how small acts of kinds can collectively make a difference to the lives of those who are in need of help.

“This is my first time to join Rise Against Hunger and Time Please. It is a wonderful experience because I get to give back to those who are in need. It is also great to work with other people - my teammates and Globe - in helping out those affected by the flooding,” he added.

Various groups across all walks of life have joined Time Please to do volunteering activities aimed at helping communities that are in need. Some of the key organizations that have joined the program are the Department of Education and Boy Scout of the Philippines.

GCash is now cautioning its users to be extremely careful when accessing online gambling sites and apps, and to avoid them altogether if possible. In this latest scheme, perpetrators created gambling apps while falsely claiming to be accredited by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). From there, fraudsters were able to access sensitive information such as credit card details, passwords, GCash numbers, MPINs, OTPs, and other personal data that can be exploited to gain unau
