Globe Data Center gets ISO 27001:2013 certification

Globe Telecom’s Data Center has added another feather to its cap as it has been recently assessed and certified in accordance to new requirements of the latest version of Information Security Management System. This forms part of the telco’s strengthened approach in managing sensitive enterprise information for a fully-digital and fully-secure enterprise community in the country.
Globe Senior Advisor for Enterprise and IT Enabled Services Group Mike Frausing (second from left) receives the Information Security Management System registration certificate from AJA Registrars Inc. Vice President Paul Bagatsing (second from right).  Joining them are Globe Vice President of Delivery & Support for IT Enabled Services Group John Manoloto (left) and Globe Product Manager for Data Center Rhock de la Cruz (right).

Globe received an ISO 27001:2013 for Information Security Management System (ISMS) from AJA Registrars Inc.  An ISMS is a systematic approach to managing sensitive company information so that it remains secure. It includes people, processes and IT systems by applying a risk management process.

“We underscore the utmost importance of information security in our operations, fully aware that our service is most crucial during the occurrence of security breaches. It is an honor to receive a re-certification for our ongoing efforts in information security which attests to the maintenance of our current mode of operation, preparedness and readiness toward a risk-based business,” said Globe Senior Advisor for Enterprise and IT Enabled Services Group Mike Frausing.

“Globe Telecom’s consistent and effective implementation of its ISMS and how it has addressed the additional requirements of the 2013 version has allowed them to earn their certification to ISO 27001:2013", attested AJA Registrars Inc., Vice President Paul Bagatsing.

AJA conferred to Globe the re-certification due to its ability to plan, establish, implement, operate, monitor, review, maintain and continually improve its document management system.  The ISMS preserves the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information to minimize risk and ensure business continuity by proactively limiting the impact of a security breach.

As a company which places a premium and commitment on certification, Globe has earned various ISO accreditations for its Data Center over the years such as ISO 9001:2008 for Quality Management System, ISO 14001:2004 for Environment Management System, ISO 22301:2012 for Business Continuity Management System and ISO 20000-1:2011 for IT Service Management System.  All these strengthen the telco’s assurance to its customers in fulfilling their service requirements.

GCash cautions against gambling apps used for phishing

A recent investigation by the National Privacy Commission (NPC) and the leading mobile wallet GCash, has led to the discovery of certain gambling sites and apps which were used for account takeovers in the recent surge of phishing scams. Additionally, some influencers may have unknowingly promoted these gaming apps without being aware of their fraudulent nature. GCash is now cautioning its users to be extremely careful when accessing online gambling sites and apps, and to avoid them altogether if possible. In this latest scheme, perpetrators created gambling apps while falsely claiming to be accredited by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). These apps deceive users with a verification process, redirecting them to a fake GCash website or payment page to top up betting credits. From there, fraudsters were able to access sensitive information such as credit card details, passwords, GCash numbers, MPINs, OTPs, and other personal data that can be exploited to gain unau...
