Another new flight is set to open to and from Kalibo International Airport starting April 2, 2019. Xiamen Airlines will re-open its flights from Fuzhou, China to Kalibo. The flights are scheduled every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
According to Mr. Rene Reyes, Tourism Attache of DOT-Shanghai, the new flight route will increase the seat capacity to Kalibo by 2,160 per month from China that will lead to increase in the number of tourist traffic.
Department of Tourism Region VI Boracay Field Office will provide a welcome lei reception to the passengers of the inaugural flight.
“In 2018, China topped the Boracay Foreign Tourist Markets with 245,565 arrivals which contributed 38.03% to the Western Visayas market share. Through this new flight, we expect that Chinese tourist arrivals would significantly increase and contribute substantially to the local economy,” DOT VI Director Atty. Helen J. Catalbas said.
Recently, DOT VI presented Boracay updates to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China. During the meeting, issues relating to Chinese tourists visiting the island were also discussed.
Since the reopening of Boracay Island on October 26, 2018, three flight routes from China to Kalibo International Airport have been opened. These flights include Kunming-Kalibo, Nanning-Kalibo and Changsha-Kalibo.
