Primetime Filipino content anytime you want, anywhere you are with Globe, TM

Globe is redefining local primetime entertainment and continuing its support for Filipino talent and content by beefing up its video streaming platforms via partnerships forged with iWant and iflix in order to offer a more robust library of local shows, movies, and TV series.

The move aims to satisfy the customer’s cravings for the latest and hottest flicks and shows from the local scene. iWant offers users from the Philippines access to original films and series, current and past Kapamilya shows, movies, restored film classics, music, and live concerts, for free. iflix also boasts an extensive lineup of powerhouse Filipino movies such as I Love You, Hater, Love You To The Stars And Back, Sin Island, The Ghost Bride and Bloody Crayons, alongside iflix Originals Hot Ones and Live Life With Kris, all of which are exclusive to the platform.

“Primetime now means TV anytime you want, anywhere you are. Starting this month, Globe customers can enjoy all the local content they love via video streaming with iWant and iflix. With iWant and iflix, Globe continues to give the Filipino consumer access to the best in local streaming content,” says Globe CEO, Ernest Cu.

“We want to give the opportunity for local content to be part of the digital space and the new digital channels that are currently being dominated by foreign content. We want to give both the Filipino viewers and the Filipino creatives access to legal streaming platforms where they can #PlayItRight and stay safe while streaming content online,” he adds.

Globe mobile customers can enjoy movies and TV shows on iWant and soon on iflix for as low as P29 via GoWATCH for Globe customers (2GB of data for videos for 1 day) and for as low as P19 via EasyWATCH for TM customers (1GB of data for videos for 1 day). And that’s just the start! Globe promises a lot more to come not just for its Globe mobile subscribers, but for its Globe At Home broadband subscribers as well.

Globe Studios, the entertainment production company arm of Globe Telecom joins the effort in raising local love of Filipino viewers with the second year of .giff (Globe Independent Film Festival). .giff celebrates the modern Filipino cinema scene by providing local budding filmmakers their long-awaited break.

The festival will hold three main programs in its search for the next Filipino film classic: (1) .giff Streaming Competition, where filmmakers can submit their ready-made films in the following competition categories: Narrative, Experimental, Animation, Documentary, and Music Video; (2) .giff Short Film Lab, where 10 selected filmmakers will get a grant and a mentorship program to complete a short film which will all compete in the festival awards in April 2019 and; (3) .giff Cinema Writing Lab, in which 10 aspiring film journalists/writers will undergo mentorship on writing about the art of film. “As the Filipino audience is developing more varied interests when it comes to films and music, we aim to grow and encourage this local love affair through providing right opportunities and platforms to the most passionate and promising talents in the country,” says Quark Henares, Head of Globe Studios.

To kick things off, Globe Studios will also premiere Elements: The Series. Elements Music Camp is a national singing-songwriting camp with the goal of helping local music talents to reach their full potential, and pave their own paths in growing the local music scene. This year, Elements Music Camp has joined forces with Globe to create a bigger, stronger camp that aims to bring together aspiring and professional musicians with local and international mentors to share, learn, and promote Filipino music. Fans can get first and exclusive dibs on these campers’ inspirational journey by catching all episodes streaming exclusively on iflix.

More recently, Globe Telecom has joined AVIA, the Asia Video Industry Association, to which Globe CEO, Ernest Cu, was recently elected as a board member. This further strengthens the mandate of the association in representing the interests of companies across the broader video industry in Asia.

In 2017, Globe launched the #PlayItRight advocacy to help the entertainment industry curb piracy and protect intellectual property rights. The company earlier announced that it has blocked nearly 2,500 illegal sites that carried child pornography.

GCash cautions against gambling apps used for phishing

A recent investigation by the National Privacy Commission (NPC) and the leading mobile wallet GCash, has led to the discovery of certain gambling sites and apps which were used for account takeovers in the recent surge of phishing scams. Additionally, some influencers may have unknowingly promoted these gaming apps without being aware of their fraudulent nature. GCash is now cautioning its users to be extremely careful when accessing online gambling sites and apps, and to avoid them altogether if possible. In this latest scheme, perpetrators created gambling apps while falsely claiming to be accredited by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). These apps deceive users with a verification process, redirecting them to a fake GCash website or payment page to top up betting credits. From there, fraudsters were able to access sensitive information such as credit card details, passwords, GCash numbers, MPINs, OTPs, and other personal data that can be exploited to gain unau...
