Globe Ambassador Eala enters 3rd round of Australian Open Juniors

Globe Ambassador and tennis prodigy Alexandra Eala booted out Julie Belgraver in three sets to book a place in the third round of the 2020 Australian Open juniors tournament in Melbourne. Eala beat her French rival, 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 to crash the third round of a grand slam tournament for the first time in her promising career. The 14-year-old tennis sensation, a Globe ambassador since 2016, overcame a big comeback by Belgraver in the second set by pouncing on her rival’s unforced errors in the deciding set for the breakthrough win. Eala, a Rafa Nadal Academy scholar, has surpassed her second round result in last year’s US Open juniors event. With the victory, Eala is set to clash with 16th seed Yi Cody of Hong Kong for a place in the quarterfinals of the first grand slam tournament of the year.

This Sinulog 2020, let’s do the environment a big favor and bring our own reusable water bottles or tumblers.  There will be Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) water stations along the carousel and solemn foot procession routes where you can refill your bottles for free.  As more than a million plastic bottles are sold every minute globally, the simple and easy act of switching from single-use to reusable plastic can contribute in the fight against plastic waste.

Project Green Islands campaigns for an Eco-friendly Sinulog 2020

Even if we want to contribute to saving the environment, it’s sometimes hard to find the best way to do it. Project Green Islands aims to spread the word about simple ways to get involved and to encourage change. Every year, massive amounts of garbage are collected during the festival. In 2018 alone, 219 tons of garbage was collected. This is almost 10% of the garbage collected in Metro Cebu on an average day. "We worked hard the whole week in maintaining cleanliness,” said PRWorks Founder and CEO Doris Isubal-Mongaya as she described the aftermath of a concert at Plaza Independencia during Sinulog 2018. “Trash was everywhere at the plaza, except inside the trash bins.” The agency was tapped by the Sinulog Foundation Inc. to organize the Sinulog fairs, the ticket marketing and sales, and the Sinulog app. The major fair project then was Kalingawan sa Plaza in Cebu City’s biggest park fronting scenic Fort San Pedro. The same thing happened during Sin...

Globe encourages consumers to reduce environmental impact by using mobile services

Globe Telecom encourages consumers to take steps in reducing their environmental impact by using their mobile devices to access health, financial, educational,  entertainment, retail, food, and other services to minimize travel. Petroleum-fed vehicles are one of the largest sources of carbon emissions in many cities around the world.  Every time a person rides a bus, car, motorcycle, ship, airplane or similar modes of transportation that does not use green energy contributes to greenhouse gas production. “Mobile technology has given consumers the power to accomplish a lot of things literally at their fingertips. Through mobile phones, we can pay our bills, visit the doctor, go to the bank, buy food, go to school, shop for clothes, among other things.  By going digital, we could lessen our contribution to greenhouse gas emission and assist in healing our planet,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability Officer and SVP for Corporate Communications.
