In commemoration of the first unfurling of the Philippine Flag on May 28, 1898 in Alapan, Kawit, Cavite, SM City Iloilo will participate in the nationwide event by holding a flag ceremony at exactly 8am on May 28, 2019, Tuesday. In an effort to promote awareness to the country’s foremost symbol, SM City Iloilo has installed Flags at the major street islands of the mall where they will remain until June 30, 2019. The Stop and Salute Campaign is a project of The Salute To A Clean Flag Movement -- a non-political, private sector-led initiative that aims to spark renewed respect and love for the Philippine flag, through the reeducation of the private sector in proper and visible flag management. Employees of SM City Iloilo  volunteered for the annual Brigada Eskwela at Donato M. Pison Elementary School in Mandurriao, Iloilo City last May 24, 2019. Led by the different mall department managers, officers and staff together with security and agency personnel, SM personnel extend assistance to the school to help clean the areas, move room fixtures to be fixed and painted a classroom so it will be suitable for learning to the students. The mall also donated paints and painting materials to be used in the school for the particular event. As can be recalled, SM City Iloilo also extended assistance to the school years ago, and had the school’s faucets tiled and fixed as well as painted tables and chairs, and fixed and replaced broken door knobs of the classrooms.

Property giant Megaworld, the country’s pioneer and largest developer of townships, saw its net income grow by 18% to P4.1-billion in the first quarter of 2019 from P3.5-billion during the same period last year. Excluding a non-recurring gain of about P189-million in the first three months of 2019, the company saw a 13% growth in net income compared to the same figure last year. Around 500 Incoming College Students set to receive SM Scholarship Grants. SM Foundation is set to award around 500 incoming college students nationwide with scholarship grants on May 8 at the MAAX Auditorium in Pasay City and in SM Malls and SM Stores in various provinces, simultaneously. Of the 500 new SM college scholars, 35% are from the National Capital Region (NCR) and 65% are from the other provinces, bringing the total number of college scholars to 1,200 for school year 2019 – 2020. NGCP’s Project Baro, one of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects, gets a boost as renowned fashion designer Rajo Laurel recently signed an Agreement to use the project’s products for NGCP’s corporate uniform in 2020. The ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between NGCP, the Miagao Weavers Association, and Laurel et Ross was formally held in February. Project Baro is a sustainable livelihood project that aims to promote and sustain the indigenous art of weaving in the country. It hopes to improve the economic conditions of its partner communities by building their capacities. Aside from the provision of trainings on various weaving techniques, raw materials and equipment to weavers, the project will also help increase their income through market linkage and access.
