Optimizing Your Business with Digital Solutions: the DIGITS Trading Corporation Success Story

Who would have thought that a humble computer shop would transform into one of the most successful tech giants in the Philippines? DIGITS Trading Corporation began as a modest computer shop sidelining as a gadget assembling hub. Charles Paw started the company back in 2002, carrying only his passion and grit, and envisioning a company that would become the foremost hub of gadgetry in the Philippines.
Glenn Ong, DIGITS Vice President for Customer Experience and Information Systems Management
In time, the business included retail in its portfolio by launching Beyond the Box, which is an Apple Premium Reseller and Authorized Service Provider, and Digital Walker, which is the premier hub of gadgets and accessories in the Philippines. Additionally, DIGITS supplies to different dealers and organizations like Globe, Astrovision, and Lazada.

Despite its current status, the path to success wasn’t easy. Glenn Richmond Ong, DIGITS’ Vice President for Customer Experience and Information Systems Management, says they faced various challenges, but the toughest and by far the most ironic was a backlog in their technology. Describing how their situation used to be, he talks about their cashiers still using manual receipts and their IT teams receiving hundreds of tickets a month regarding unstable Internet connection.

Globe at Home shares commitment to connecting Filipino homes at APOStech Conference

Globe at Home is committed to connecting Filipino homes through high-speed internet, and it shared its vision at APOStech, where SVP for Globe Broadband Business Martha Sazon was the first female senior leader to give a keynote address in the conference.

Sazon highlighted Globe Telecom’s broadband brand Globe At Home and how the relevance and necessity of connectivity keeps on growing especially in the space of  video-on-demand.

APOStech brings together major players in product, commerce, data and analytics, advertising, and payment in Hong Kong to improve content and delivery at media, telecoms, and technology companies. Now on its second year, the event hopes to encourage companies to drive engagement with the connected consumer through innovative executions.

In the Philippines, Sazon acknowledged the broadband situation, where an underserved market grapples with slow internet speed of up to 4.2Mbps and where service providers have to find ways to reach customers across 7,107 islands. Providers must also deal with issues like the lack of a national broadband network, bureaucracy in permitting, and a free TV market.

Breastfeeding Ilonggas issue statement regarding Iloilo City council session

Breastfeeding Ilonggas (BFI) issued the statement below regarding the session at the Iloilo City Council a few days ago that stemmed from this Bombo Radyo Iloilo FB post. It mainly involved Vice Mayor Joe Espisosa  III and and Councilor Ed Penaredondo who joked about the BFIs Hakab Na event at SM City Iloilo held weeks ago to celebrate National Breastfeeding Awareness Month. After the online uproar from the radio's FB page, both politicos issued their separate apologies - Vice Mayor Joe III and Councilor Ed Penaredondo.

Many of us personally did not hear what the Vice Mayor and the City Councilor said about breastfeeding during a council session yesterday. In fact, we requested for a copy of the transcript to get a perspective of how the discussion started and how it evolved, provoking a lot of listeners especially women. The transcript however won't be available till next week according to our contact from the city hall. A lot of concerned citizens have expressed disgust, anger and disappointment because such comments were least expected and viewed as disrespectful of women from the second highest official of this city and a city councilor.

It's just sad that our society has oversexualized a woman's body where even government leaders consider it acceptable to use a woman’s breast as part of their sex jokes when it’s a natural form of nurturing a child through breastfeeding. It is sad that some government leaders see breastfeeding as taboo or an inappropriate act when done in public --- when that woman only wanted to address the basic need of her child and not necessarily to gain attention and expose herself for public shame.  Who wants to be shamed anyway? We are telling you, there are plenty of reasons why mothers have no choice but to feed their children in the public, covered or uncovered.  Parading their breasts for the sake of showing off is definitely not one of them.
