Globe Business chief joins MAP, set to bring new insights to transform PH ICT industry

Globe Telecom Senior Vice President and Head for Globe Business Nikko Acosta recently took oath as member of the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP), is expected to lead discussions and sharing of best practices specific to transforming the ICT industry in the country and enabling enterprises embrace the upcoming ASEAN integration by becoming more globally-competitive

Acosta’s leadership was instrumental in steering the growth of Globe Telecom’s information and communication technology (ICT) arm, with revenues growing by 10 percent in 2014 led by strong growth of the segment’s data business amidst cutthroat competition in the enterprise ICT business.

Megaworld to build Iloilo City’s future financial center

Megaworld, the country’s leading developer of integrated urban townships, is committed to establishing the modern financial center of Iloilo City inside its 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park.

Around nine hectares of the entire township have been allocated for the commercial district. The company started selling the lots at P47,000 per square meter in 2013. Today, the lots, which range from 611 square meters to 1,735 square meters, are now sold at P70,000 or a 49% increase from its original price a couple of years ago.

95th Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan launched in Iloilo

SM Foundation Inc.(SMFI) launched the 95th batch of Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan farmers training program last July 28, 2015 at Ephratah Farms in Brgy. Sariri, Badiangan, Iloilo.

The program, which aims to help farmers improve and increase their productivity and income through application of modern  technology like the use of plastic green house and mulch, use of organic  fertilizers and organic pesticides, is initiated by SMFI in collaboration with  HARBEST Agribusiness Corporation, the Department of Agriculture, Department of Social Welfare and Development the local government units.

GXI expands Globe Charge distribution network via key retail partnerships

G-Xchange, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Globe Telecom, has entered into a partnership agreement with four key technology retail companies in the country to expand the distribution network of Globe Charge mobile point-of-sale (POS) solution.

Cebu Province youth to train as servant leaders

A thousand public high school students from more than 100 schools in Cebu province will undergo a leadership program where they would be trained before the year ends on how to be good servant leaders of the country. 

The students would go through a Servant Leadership Program designed by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc – Kool Adventure Camp and are expected to create change in their schools and communities.
A public high school student who joined the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc – Kool Adventure Camp Servant Leadership Program writes down her personal improvement plan as a servant leader.
The program aims to promote the principles of servant leadership through an adventure program, establish a common behaviour and personal improvement plan for the students to better execute their roles and responsibilities as young leaders.

Megaworld to spend P20-B for 12 office towers in Fort Bonifacio

Megaworld, the country’s biggest developer and lessor of office spaces, is opening 12 new office buildings in three of its four townships in the bustling Fort Bonifacio in the next three years.  The company is spending P20-billion to construct these state-of-the-art towers, growing more than twice its current 300,000 square meters office space inventory in Fort Bonifacio alone by 2018.

Sunlife and partners' Project 120 aids disaster survivors in Visayas

US-based tech entrepreneurs hold meetup for Geeks on a Beach int’l tech confab

Tech entrepreneurs, designers, and startups based in San Francisco, USA met up last July 2, 2015 at the San Francisco Airport Marriot Waterfront Hotel Lounge to talk about the Geeks on a Beach (GOAB) international tech startup confab this August 21-22.

STAC Silicon Valley and Global Filipino Network organized the said meetup with and GOAB lead organizer Tina Amper, who is now concluding her rounds in the United States to whip up support for the upcoming big event.

Now in its third year, GOAB was first conducted on the beaches of Boracay Island, Philippines in September 2013 where more than 300 participants attended. It is set to return to Boracay this August after holding the event at Moevenpick Beach Resort Hotel Cebu last year.

Globe collaboration with PNP and NBI yields series of arrests

Globe Telecom, the Philippine National Police, and the National Bureau of Investigation have arrested and charged 65 alleged cable thieves and fraudsters as the drive against such illegal activities continues to intensify.
Twelve individuals were apprehended and are now facing prosecution for Estafa due to illegal recontracting and subscription fraud, 31 for illegal sale of WiMax Modems, and 20 for cable theft.

Atty.  Froilan Castelo, Globe General Legal Counsel, said the cases should serve as a warning that Globe, in close coordination with the help of the PNP and NBI, remains relentless in pursuing its campaign against all types of fraud that can put the company’s name in bad light and negatively affect legitimate Globe customers.

The My City, My SM, My Cuisine cookbook recently won two Gourmand World Cookbook Awards during recent ceremonies in Yantai, China.
The Prestige Award of by the International Jury qualified the My City, My SM, My Cuisine cookbook to be among Gourmand’s Best in the World. This year’s awards drew more than 12,000 entries from 205 countries.
The book was honored with a Prestige Award by the International Jury, and placed third in the Local Cuisine category, qualifying it to be among Gourmand’s Best in the World.

Founded in 1995 by Edouard Cointreau, the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards is sometimes described as the Oscars of Food Awards.  It celebrates cookbook and wine publishing, and features many renowned chefs every year.

UN-Habitat, DSWD reap gains in Panay Island

HE wore a loose grey shirt and a tranquil face while sitting on a wooden stage set for the formal turn-over of houses that was about to happen in Brgy. Pawa, Panay, Capiz.
When I asked him where his house is, he pointed me to the rightmost shelter, beside the stage. It had a label placed adjacent to the door knob which showed his name boldly printed “Ramir Barrera.”

Thirty-nine-year-old Ramir happily showed to me his new home where he, his wife Emilyn and their two children will be staying for good. 

“We are really grateful for the house given to us,” he said.

Smart launches Doon Po Sa Amin 2015 video competition

Wireless services leader Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) announced the opening of registration for the 8th Doon Po Sa Amin (DPSA) video-making contest, the country’s first and longest-running crowd-sourcing competition designed to uncover the best and the most unique Filipino hometown stories.

The initiative is part of the digital inclusion advocacy of Smart, making information accessible to more and more Filipinos through mobile and Internet technologies.

“Through DPSA, we encourage Pinoys to join the digital discussion by taking part in documenting Philippine culture and history for the entire world to appreciate,” said Public Affairs Group Head Ramon Isberto. “With this project, we want to elevate Filipino pride and urge everyone to become local ambassadors of their hometowns,” Isberto added.

Globe Telecom hosts first-ever Clash of Clans grand eyeball

As part of its commitment to the Filipino digital lifestyle, Globe Telecom threw its support to the local mobile gaming industry and hosted the first grand eyeball of Clash of Clans gamers, players and enthusiasts in the Philippines.

A unique collaboration with the local online community of Clash of Clans PH, the event gave guests a chance to meet, interact, and play together with their fellow "Clashers" for the first time.

Each area provided a complete and immersive experience, transporting them into the world of Clash of Clans, bringing to life familiar scenes and characters from the game itself. GT Cosmetics Founder is Countryside Entrepreneur of the Year

GT Cosmetics Founder and Chief Operating Officer, Engr.  Leonora B. Salvane, was awarded this year’s Grand Chamber Countryside Entrepreneur of the Year by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) today at the Radisson Blu Hotel. 
Born to a poor peasant family in Bohol, Salvane finished a degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of San Carlos and began her venture into business by selling pneumatic parts and industrial chemicals.

“Life was hard.  We were not earning enough for the family. I prayed hard for a business where I can practice my profession as a chemical engineer,” she said.

Megaworld supports ‘clean and green’ program of Iloilo Port

As part of its continuing commitment to environmental sustainability, Megaworld, the developer of Iloilo Business Park, has partnered with the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) – Iloilo to promote a clean and green environment around the Port of Iloilo. The company has donated potted plants and trash bins to the port which serves to an average of 2,000 passengers daily going to and from Bacolod, Cebu, Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro and Manila. 
Last year, Megaworld also initiated a greening program in the coastal area of Barangay Sooc, Villa de Arevalo in Iloilo City by planting hundreds of nursed mangrove seedlings in the area that surrounds the historic Iloilo River. Globe Telecom is undisputed leader in postpaid with revenue market share of 57.8%

Globe Telecom is the #1 postpaid brand in the country based on revenue market share, the global metric used in determining market leadership across telcos worldwide.
Globe posted postpaid revenues of P7.8 billion in the first quarter of 2015 versus Smart’s P3.3 billion and Sun’s P2.4 billion. Globe postpaid revenues have grown by 11% versus Sun’s 10% growth from previous year’s levels.

The revenue figures show Globe has cornered the mobile postpaid segment with revenue market share of 57.8%, leaving Smart with a 24.6% revenue share and Sun with a 17.6% revenue share.

RAFI names Triennial Awards finalists for 2015
